What does mediainfo say about two files, one that plays and one that does not in the same format?
So, for example, one eac3 that plays and one you created and does not play?
Do they have the same sample rate, bit rate and channel count?

Yes selur
I have kept as much as possible original ... except for the bitrate ofcourse ... i can't put an custom number in it ..?? The original bitrate is 1664/kbs 48/khz 8 channel / 6 channel (Bluray disk) (Dolby digital plus) say media info !
EDIT: the same thing happend when i try to encode it through ffmpeg.. Furthermore, when i leave everything at default setting in ffmpeg i get the error "one paramater is incorrect" when i hit encode.. And that parameter seems to be "channels" !! at default is 7.1 , since its an 8 channel track according to media info.. And as soon i change it to 5.1 it succesfully encodes but still NO sound in players , THE SAME ORDEAL
I suggest you DL that sample for inspection selur. To try and reproduce this issue !?
Diz duck would be VERY SURPRISED if your Onkyo set would bitstream that
→ the NEW encode i mean ... !
Cheers

Update i.e Encoded EAC3
@selur,
It doesn't look good from what i have read regarding this eac3 issue !!!
Appearantly, e-ac3 tracks that original comes from bluray sources, can't be bitstreamed once re-encoded ! Only the core (AC3) can be bitstreamed
Well damn, i thought sony Cinavia protection wos bad
cheers,
TD

Dolby digital plus = E-AC-3
e-ac3, dts-hd, etc. basically anything with more than 5.1 channels can only be bit streamed over HDMI.
For e-ac-3 there is a special case where bit streaming over toslink works,
but a on-the-fly conversion to ~6MBit/s takes place.
Are you using toslink?!? If you do, that is your problem.

Ofcourse i don't use these ancient methods like toslink (opt) or AUX anymor selur
Only when the hardware wouldn't support anything else..
It's all connected through hdmi... a matter a fact... iam using HDMI → 2.1 .
Even though 1.4a is sufficient even for streaming atmos .. from my experience..

Assuming your receiver supports, e-ac3 and you are sure that a.-d. are not the cause there is either something wrong with your receiver or it doesn't support bit-streaming as most receivers normally to.
moved the thread, since its not really Hybrid related,..

If there would be something wrong with the receiver, it wouldn't be able to stream that sample wich is E-ac3 ..
Not only that but the same thing happend on my Denon receiver ! so 2 receivers at fault !???
No it's something else..
I've read post from other poeple that have had the same exact issue on github !!
And the respond wos, that EAC3 tracks coming from other sources, simply can't be bitstreamed anymore after Re-encode !
Selur, DL the eac3 sample from
DD+ 7.1 (EAC3), re-encode it to EAC3 again and try to passthrough the stream through your receiver to see if you have sound !??
Iam curious to read the outcome of that..
cheers,

Update Solved (Partial)
so, i think it has something to do with the order / amount of channels in the sound track from the source , could it !?
I have downloaded another DD+ sample but this time with 6. channels (5.1) instead of 8 channels (7.1)
Both sample and Re-encoded E-AC3 files play and stream nicely now ... !
But still no dice when i try to convert DTS track to 5.1 DD+
!!!
Weird to say the least ...
cheers,
Check the manuals (ask support), receivers often support only specific parts of a standard.
For example, my receiver does support ac3 with 2, 4 and 5.1 channels, but doesn't support 2.1.
=> folks over at avsforum or hydrogenaud.io are more suited to help with such problem,..

Update
Well FINALY, i managed to convert DTS to an working E-AC3 file for bitstreaming ...
But, only Mpc-hc & hardware stand alone bd player will bitstream NOT → powerdvd
And, i have noticed i needed to stick to 6 channel AND → Lower the Bitrate from the EAC3 track to 768 (wich is Bluray compliant coincndently) !!
I think iam on to something here... bitrate might be key here !?
But DD+ bitrate should be supported up to 3Mbit/sec !?!?
oh well, getting closer to my goals..
cheers,
TD

probably only specific bit rate, channel and sampling rate combinations,...
