I need to upscale a VHS capture from an old 1983 TV broadcast, which has a strange moiré pattern due to poor TV reception. Any suggestions most welcome.
can't download the file,... (no permission)
Try it now. Apologies.
Download worked now.
Interlaced content saved progressively without deinterlacing. Confused Dodgy

hmm, what I would try.
  • vinverse2 to remove the combing artifacts.
  • crop to remove the ugly borders
  • Edefixer to fix a bit of the artifacts at the bottom
  • BalanceBorders to lessen the coloring at the sides
  • SpotLess with temporal radius 2 for the comets
  • RemoveDirt for the artifacts <- this does most of the filtering and is the reason for most of the details loss
and then maybe BasicVSR++ or SCUNet or DGDenoise

add the end one could add some grain (https://imgsli.com/MjUzODU2)

iirc. NeatVideo was good with removing such artifacts, so it might be worth a try too.

The ProRes file is interlaced - perhaps AviDemux saved it as progressive? I will check.
The download is progressive.
When overwriting the can type each frame is duplicated,... so this isn't interlaced.
