Hello, I think your amazing program, 'MKV Cutter' is no longer developed Sad but I had a question. First, could you PLEASE continue development of it? Smile The reason I ask is because so far, it's the ONLY program I've found that can perfectly cut MKVs while retaining soft-embedded subtitles and it also retains the exact/proper names of multiple audio tracks.

The only things I was wondering if you could fix are;

1. When the subtitles are passed to the new file, the name is changed and it's replaced by 'Track 1'. Example, I was editing a file that had a subtitle track called 'Forced-English'. When I saved the file, the sub track was renamed to 'Track 1'. This is a MINOR issue. When working with an MKV that has multiple audio tracks that have names like (English AC3, English Atmos, Commentary)..... when I make my edits and save the file, those names are retained, which is perfect. But sub tracks get renamed to that generic 'Track 1')

2. Could you add the ability to play the file? Sometimes, I want to get the cut point at a certain spot but I'd like to hear what is being said. Example, in Avidemux, you can play the video and hear what is being said and zero in on what you'd like to cut. With MKV Cutter, I can only jump around and can't play the video to see it in motion and hear it. (Unless I'm doing something wrong and it DOES have this capability?)

Bonus question, do you have a link to the latest version of MKV Cutter? I only found the '2017' one on Videohelp and the '2019' one they link to throws up security warnings when I download it. (False positive?)

Sorry, one last question, I see all the EXE's that the 2017 version uses.... can I simply replace those with newer versions or will that break something?

So if by chance you read this, please don't abandon MKV Cutter. It's truly an amazing app! I'd be willing to pay money for a newer version, especially if you can make those changes.

Thank you
The versions I compiled are available in my GoogleDrive.
You probably can replace the dependencies with newer versions, assuming the call syntax hasn't changed.
The whole code base is ugly and never was really meant to be developed further.
2019 was the last time I looked at the code and 2017 is probably the last time I really modified the code.
In 2019 I added the audio wavefront overlay to it and some Avisynth handling changes.
If someone is interested to open source it and develop it further, I can share the source code.

MKV Cutter was never meant as a serious tool for usage, but only as a proof-of-concept, so I have no plan of spending any time on it.
LosslessCut and similar should do a better job.

Thank you very much for the reply!

Even if you only consider MKV Cutter a 'proof-of-concept' tool, it's pretty darn good and since discovering it, I've been using it more and more. It fills a gap that nobody has quite filled since you made it. Like Avidemux, your tool gives me frame perfect cuts and it handles subtitles like a champ where as Avidemux doesn't.

Lossless Cut is good and all but -EVERY- time I cut on key frames and it stitches the cut pieces back together, I always get this weird "glitch" where the scenes are merged. Your tool and Avidemux don't do this. I've tried messing with all the settings in Lossless Cut but can't get that weird glitch to go away.

I wish you well in your future endeavors and if you ever charge your mind and re-visit this tool, my credit card is standing by! Smile
