I had a folder named "Gravações" and MkvCutter wasn't working. I read the log about not being able to find the temp .avs file that was created.
So I tested to rename the folder to Gravacoes and it worked again.

Happy you figured out that non-ascii character can cause problems and that MKVCutter is of any help to you.
