help with letter box and resizing - JamesMay - 30.06.2026 I've got AVI files that are 720x480. As these are VHS captures, I want to crop some pixels from the edges and bottom. The input PAR is read correctly from the AVI file as 8x9. I've set the output PAR to square pixel 1:1. Then I want to upscale to 1920x1080 with letter boxing making up the difference in sizes. So far I haven't figured out how to do this. Any help would be appreciated. OK, I finally got this to play on Roku Ultra! Should be compatible with most modern players. This is from VHS captures to .AVI. Crop/Resize tab: Base tab: Select Picture crop 6 6 6 8 bottom suggested for VHS, may still leave some residue but gets the worst of it. Program dependent. Select Resize method Auto Adjust. Then djust target resolution horizontal until the grayed out vertical reads 1080. Check letter box and force to1920x1080. Roku Ultra demands this for x.264 At the bottom, Input par at 8x9 (this is what my digitized VHS tapes report in the AVI file) Convert output PAR to square pixel Resize method bicubic spline, but overridden in another tab Filtering tab: (De-)interlace/Telecine tab: On right, select VapourSynth, QTGMC Select overwrite input scan type to bottom field first (as auto detected in my .AVI files) Preset: Custom, don’t select BOB, no need to double frame rate, as the difference in motion is really not noticeable with properly deinterlaced VHS/Hi-8 source material. 29.97fps is a more universally playable format, and file size is half that of 59.94fps. RE: help with letter box and resizing - Selur - 30.06.2026 About the letterboxing&co: looks right to me You might also want to use ColorMatrix to convert to bt.709 for compatibility. Cu Selur |
