Using a MediaPlayer to convert content seems like a bad move since you in general loose a lot of control about what color conversion are used and since direct show filters are used, you might end up with duplicated or removed frames.

- for the dirty, small glitches&co I would first try SMDegrain (increasing the SAD value, setting ContraSharp to 50 and increasing the temporal radius)
- for scenes where this is not enough, SpotLess might be a good idea (only per scene not as a global setting, since it can be rather aggressive). (Filtering->Vapoursynth->Misc->UI, offers to enable some extended controls, which allow to restrict filters to frame ranges&co)
- maybe also add additional sharpening, depending on personal preferences
