[HELP] Suggestions requested to restore and clean up BLACK SUNDAY (1960) LD Transfer
#8
Using a MediaPlayer to convert content seems like a bad move since you in general loose a lot of control about what color conversion are used and since direct show filters are used, you might end up with duplicated or removed frames.
About suggestions on this content, ignoring any artifacts that might be caused by the MPEG-4 ASP compression.
  • for the dirty, small glitches&co I would first try SMDegrain (increasing the SAD value, setting ContraSharp to 50 and increasing the temporal radius)
  • for scenes where this is not enough, SpotLess might be a good idea (only per scene not as a global setting, since it can be rather aggressive). (Filtering->Vapoursynth->Misc->UI, offers to enable some extended controls, which allow to restrict filters to frame ranges&co)
  • maybe also add additional sharpening, depending on personal preferences
