Okay, Ubuntu 19.04 required:

sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libc6:i386 libncurses5:i386 libstdc++6:i386

for the 32bit binaries to work. (Man, not the best error message to indicate that i386 libraries are missing. :/)
