Hello,
I'm working on a PAL DVD source and I'm having trouble getting a clean encode.
The video appears to have interlacing issues and what looks like frame blending. I've tried several deinterlacing settings, but I can't seem to remove the artifacts without introducing new problems such as loss of detail, ghosting, or motion issues.
At this point I'm not sure whether the source is simply interlaced, field-blended, or affected by a PAL conversion process.
Could anyone take a look and advise me on the best approach? In particular, I'd like to know:

How to correctly identify the type of issue present in the source.

Which filters or settings should be enabled or disabled.

Whether deinterlacing alone is sufficient or if a more advanced restoration workflow is required.

Recommended settings for achieving the cleanest possible encode.

I've attached sample screenshots and/or a short sample clip.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dan,
What you’ve done with Hybrid is truly magnificent.
I wanted to report an issue regarding ColorAdjust with the ReColor option. I’m using the official Hybrid version (Hybrid_2026.03.21.1_SETUP), not the development build and VapoursynthR73_torch_2026.02.26.
The issue that still persists is significant distortions on moving objects when ReColor is enabled. I tried reducing the problem using:

qtgmc.QTGMC(clip, Preset="Very Slow", InputType=3, TR2=2, TFF=False, SourceMatch=0, Lossless=0)

and it reduced the issue a little, but the distortions are still visible.
It’s a shame because this is a really great feature, but this small problem affects the final result. We definitely need to find a solution!

PS: P.S. In the development version ColorAdjust with the ReColor, there is also a temporal consistency issue across the whole image, similar to a flickering effect from frame to frame + Distortion .

Best regards

Hello everyone,
I would like to open a discussion about an important challenge for exemplar-based colorization methods:
Keyframe Color Consistency Challenge
We need to find a reliable way to achieve temporal consistency between colorized keyframes so they can be used for the full colorization of black and white videos.
At the moment, one of the main limitations is that even when keyframes are individually colorized well, colors often vary from one keyframe to another. This creates flickering, unstable tones, skin tone changes, clothing color drift, and inconsistencies in objects or environments when processing the full sequence.
Why This Matters
For real-world video restoration, getting beautiful frame-by-frame results is not enough. We need:

Stable skin tones from scene to scene

Consistent clothing and object colors

Lighting adaptation without color drift

Smooth transitions between distant keyframes

Reliable propagation across long sequences

Some Approaches I Tested
I experimented with several workflows using Automatic1111 + ControlNet + IP-Adapter.
Example Setup in Automatic1111
Main txt2img Prompt
Positive Prompt:
This helps transfer colors from one keyframe to another while respecting the luminance of the target black and white frame.
But Problems Remain
Even with this method:

Colors still drift over time

Different scenes generate different palettes

The same person may change skin tone

Sky, grass, and buildings vary between shots

Propagation becomes unstable in long videos

2 - Qwen-Image-Edit
From my tests, Qwen-Image-Edit currently delivers some of the best single-keyframe colorization results in terms of realism, detail, and natural palette generation.
However, there is still no practical way to maintain the same temporal consistency across all other keyframes in the video.
So even if one keyframe looks excellent, the next keyframe may still shift in:

Skin tone

Clothing colors

Environment palette

Object consistency

Scene mood

Main Question
Could it be possible to use Qwen-Image-Edit for colorize all keyframes?
For example:

Use one master keyframe style and propagate it

Multi-keyframe palette memory

Identity/object color locking

Reference-aware batch processing

Latent temporal consistency between generated keyframes

What Do You Think?
Is there a way to use Qwen-Image-Edit to colorize all keyframes and create one unified temporal color source for all reference images (keyframes)?

Hi,
I’m currently working on encoding a DVD source and I’m trying to achieve the best possible final quality, but I’ve run into several issues.
The main problem is noticeable ghosting/blending (likely caused by a poor deinterlacing or blending process). I’ve already tried a few deblending methods, but none of them gave truly satisfying results — the ghosting is still quite visible, especially in motion scenes.
More generally, I’d like to properly clean up the source before encoding. So I’m not only looking for advice on deblending, but also on the overall best workflow and filters to improve the final result.
For example:

Proper way to handle this kind of blended/interlaced source

Recommended deinterlacing / deblending settings or filters

Whether additional steps like denoising, debanding, or sharpening would help (and in what order)

Any specific encoding settings that would preserve as much detail as possible

I’ve attached a short sample clip so you can see exactly what I’m dealing with.
My goal is to get a clean and efficient encode (likely in HEVC/x265) without introducing artifacts or losing too much detail.
Any advice or recommended workflow would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hello Dan & Selur ,

I am working on a custom video colorization pipeline heavily inspired by ColorMNet, but I completely overhauled the core architecture to make it state-of-the-art:

1. Backbone Upgrade: Replaced DINOv2 with DINOv3 for denser and richer semantic feature extraction.
2. Memory Upgrade: Upgraded the tracking engine to the XMem++ architecture (incorporating Permanent Memory).

The Progress:
I successfully trained the model from scratch up to 145,000 iterations (DAVIS AND REDS AND 16MM FILM)
The temporal stability and object tracking are mind-blowing. If I provide a reference frame with a red car, the car stays perfectly red throughout the whole video, even through severe occlusions.

The Problem:
While the tracking is perfect, I am experiencing a spatial issue: Color Bleeding / Spilling ( specifically spilling over the ground/road and the sky )

Call for Collaboration:
I am reaching out to see if we can team up to stabilize this model. Once we fix this spatial bleeding, I truly believe this will be the ultimate upgrade to ColorMNet.

To get things started, I have attached all the files to this post:

The complete training and inference source code.

The test scripts.

The trained model weights (at 145k iterations).

The visual results along with the reference images.

Let's build something great together. Any advice or pull requests are welcome!
I’m having trouble improving the quality of an anime video and I can’t seem to fully fix it.
Source info:

FPS: 29.970

I already processed it with SRestore to get back to 23.976 fps

I also used QTGMC to fix interlacing

Current issue:
There are still a lot of small bright and colored pixels around the lineart (edges). It looks like strong compression artifacts (ringing / mosquito noise), almost like an over-compressed JPEG.
What I already tried in Hybrid:

DeHaloAlpha (Radius 2, Strength 1–2)

HQDeRing (Y + U + V checked)

Deband (f3kdb Neo, light settings)

Despite this, the pixels around the lines are still very visible.
What I’m looking for:

Best way to reduce/remove these artifacts without destroying line detail

Recommended filters or settings in Hybrid / VapourSynth

Whether this can be properly fixed or if it’s just a limitation of the source
If needed, I can provide screenshots or a sample.

Backing up up my Simpsons dvd collection. I did tivtc with qtgmc fast, VInverse2, KNLMeansCL, YAHR, Santiag followed by a NNEDi3 resize to convert to square pixels at 640x480. The result is great except for about 100 frames around the 2:30 mark. It seems to be imbedded in the source as it occurs even when i play the untouched vob ripped from the disc. Any idea's of how to fix this? Can i just fix the 100 or so problem frames without messing with the rest of the episode?

Hi,
I added deblendS6 which is an alternative to sRestore mode=6, where I tried to:
a. keep the results (nearly) the same as sRestore mode=6
b. speed the whole thing up
c. add lookaheads and threading

Would be nice if someone uses it instead of sRestore mode=6 to give some general feedback.
