[INFO] Audio "distortion" conversion 25fps → 24fps
#1
Music
Helloha,

Today, i had to work around (again ..!) a rather annoying audio issue !!

So, the audio iam working with is from an DVD source 5.1channel AC3 / 16-Bit / 48000khz / 384 Kb/sec Bitrate

The issue seems to be the applied speed change , namely → Pitch setting !!

When leaving pitch setting blank (disabled = prefered) , ONLY in this case the audio is distorted at musical/instrumental parts only fyi ...
i.e: The distortion isn't there (atleast i don't hear it anymore) when the audio is vocal only !!

Now, when i have mentioned this ↑ you can pretty much guess what the work around is next ...
Indeed, enabling pitch solves the distortion issue ... Aber/ DASbut by doing so, you risk hearing mighty mouse in the background , or barry white impression when doing a slow .. down🤭

Check attachement for instrumental sample...
Listen to the flute solo in the sample .. maybe , just maybe the flute is a fluke 😅

EDIT: Almost forget.. have tried Aften as encoder aswell, same annoying audio glitch when pitch adjustment is turned of...

Is it a "feature" or Bug ... iam not sure.. but , i can tell you listening to that while watching is ANNOYING as Flying musquito crawling in your wig .. bzzzz!

Enable to adjust the audio pitch during speed change, otherwise the pitch will be the same as the input. (-> if you want the MickeyMouse effect enable this)
So yes, if you enabled 'Adjust pitch' the pitch changes,.....

... that's just it.. i don't want the change high/low pitch in the audio.. !

But when not used, you hear that audio glitch as you probebly might have heard aswell.. 😑 ..  What's up with that anyway?  The sound makes a duplicated sound kind of. You have heard it , you know what diz duck means.. don't you..

That's not right... just because of an speedchange conversion , it's not mandatory to aply pitch filter normaly ...
I'll do some testing with other apps..

I rather keep the ORIGINAL Pitch from the audio 😉 .. albeit, using speed change to stretching/slowdown audio, might need pitch restore.. but original it sound just fine..

And it's another of your issues, where you don't really share details, no debug output.

This kind of adjustment is only needed if you change the playback length of your output. This only happens if you also speed up or slow down the video frame rate through:
a. 'Filtering->Speed Change->Change speed" or
b. 'SelectEvery' without 'Adjust FPS' or
c. 'SelectRangeEvery' without 'Adjust FPS'
or you try to swap audio streams between sources of different frame rates. (in your case, the audio from a PAL source under a NTSC source)

=> are you sure, what you are doing is corret?

Cu Selur

Ps.: I attached the extracted audio and the results I get when converting to ac3 while using speed change 25 to 24 without and with pitch adjust. Everything seems as expected.

I thought my intial first post was self-explanatory..  I mean,  why else would one change audio speed usually ...?
Iam converting 25fps content into 24fps.  Therefore...↓

Well then... One (video conversion) leads to another → Audio speed change ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  right?
That's what my initial post was all about , when i wrote about "speed change / audio pitch" .. no 🤔?

(06.09.2024, 20:37)Selur Wrote: a. 'Filtering->Speed Change->Change speed" or

All that 👍 aplies to the video track only , no?

Yes and again, iam doing an media conversion by wich the framerate changes, and thus the audio needs to change also to match the new framerate..
But by doing the latter, the instrumental part (mainly) from the audio track is having seizures , when i don't use the pitch feature, wich can lead in too high or tooo low pitch tone (when pitch adjustment is used !) 🙄.

Fortunately , going from 25 to 24fps is not big of an jump and therefor is the audio not slowed down toO much to hear an big pitch difference regardless..
But say if you would convert 29,97 to 24fps and use the pitch option... You'll sure will hear an DEEP and LOW tone bass voice & music in the clip. Because the timeline has been stretched by converting the framerate..

Hence why i don't like to use the pitch option, but it's the only way to solve that audio (double clicking if you will) issue !

No, not in this instance... But if i do that, i only do that from source of wich the video framerate is exact the same ...
But again, switching audio tracks between sources i.e: dvd audio to BD (bluray) source or vice versa doesn't realy matter .. realy..

Since, the same method aplies, right?  It realy depends what the video framerate is from both sources (DVD / BD etc..) , and thats the main important relevant info relative to the audio part .. no?

In either case, if framerate is different from both sources you ALWAY's need to adjust the new audio track to match the new framerate from the destination file .. right?

I like to think so ... 😅

I mean, i did posted a method type of work around didn't i? To solve that double, triple whatever audio repetitive sound in between (not sure how to call that) ..

Ill DL and have a look at your atempts to see.. or rather .. i will hear what you were up to this time My Royal Majesty 👑  .. 😄

I have yet to see a post from you that:
a. contains the details asked for, read https://forum.selur.net/thread-3.html
b. makes sense without having to ask xy questions what you are doing

Quote: All that 👍 aplies to the video track only , no?
Yes, and unless you use one of these options, changing the audio speed is a mistake.

Quote: Yes and again, iam doing an media conversion by wich the framerate changes, and thus the audio needs to change also to match the new framerate..
Even if you were doing a norm conversion. There are multiple ways to do that.

Quote: But say if you would convert 29,97 to 24fps and use the pitch option... You'll sure will hear an DEEP and LOW tone bass voice & music in the clip. Because the timeline has been stretched by converting the framerate..
You should NOT use the pitch option unless you want a distortion.

no clue what you are speaking of

=> So, my patience just ran out, so this was the last post from me in this thread, if you open a new thread (every) about anything, and it does not contain proper details I will ban you from this forum (forever).
Sorry, but my free time gets less and less the older I get, and spending it on discussions like this simply is not worth my free time. Hybrid and this is a hobby to me.

... hahahah my king LOOL .. 😂 ...

Iam lmaopimprofl so HARD because... all 3 files you've posted do have the exact same audio flaw ... !!

If you listen carefull, you can CLEARLY hear the audio clicking sound , and that's a BIG NO NO to have when watching content !!

And the other thing is.. without the original audio (wich i have kept), you can't rectify this flaw ↑ anymore by doing an conversion from an conversion 😬 !!!

see  ya,
