[HELP] Encoding to .MP4 (x264) stuck at same %
#1
Hi there, i've been using Hybrid for some time now and succesfully re-encoded hundreds of tapes, it is an amazing tool Wink

I have some troubles re-encoding some uncompressed U-Matic tapes to .mp4 (x264 codec), my capture workflow is always the same.

Aja Kona LHi > 8bit YCbCr (2VUY) uncompressed file to MP4 (x264) file. I just deinterlace using QTGMC (faster preset) and Bob

Some of these files get stuck during the process at 27.27% , just after the audio having been processed. When this happens, encoding to other codec like ProRes (.mov) usually solves this.

-Hybrid version: 2024.12.21.1 (also happened with previous ones)
-Debug file
-Report
-Video sample
-MediaInfo

Thank you very much!

Can you reproduce the problem with the sample you provided, because here applying QTGMC works fine.
(Aside from the paths and the trimming, I used the same script as you.)
Does the Vapoursynth Preview work?

Hybrid usually gets stuck when:
a. during indexing of large files (on slow media) (check taskmgr if can spot what is happening)
b. when something is interfering with the piping (I suspect this is the culprit.)
try:
  • Disabling a any antivirus&co. (to know whether this might be caused by a virus scanner or similar; especially McAffee, Norton and similar suits often cause problems. Sometimes adding exceptions for Hybrid, the temp, source, output folders helps.)
  • A different source filter. Atm. LibavSMASHSource is used.
Disabling "Filtering->Vapoursynth->Misc->Source->Prefer LSMASHSource over LWLibAAvSource for mp4/mov" will trigger Hybrid to use LWLibavSource. Additionally disabling "Filtering->Vapoursynth->Misc->Source->Prefer LWLibAVSource over FFMpegSource2" will trigger Hybrid to use FFMpegSource2. Enabling "Filtering->Vapoursynth->Misc->Source->Prefer BestSource" will trigger Hybrid to use BestSource, but fail on this source. Aside from BestSource all the source filters work fine here on the provided sample.
  • Have source-, temp- and output-folder in different folders out of any Windows folders (AppData&Co) on local drives.

Hello Selur,

I tried to encode the sample and it won't get stuck. I'm suspecting it might have to do with the file size ( original clip is 84.9Gb). The folder where the file is located is on a HDD drive and the encoding destination is on a internal SSD drive, maybe it could have something to do since im working in 2 drives simultaneously? I had some problems in the past while opening with hybrid files from another hard drive and encoding to a different one.

Task manager shows very low usage ( about 250mb of RAM memory and 0% CPU, when it usually takes arround 80% when encoding)

I'm gonna see if this also happens when encoding to .mov and also try your other sugestions to see if there are any changes.

By the way, is it recommended to have Hybrid installed on the same drive that has the files that I want to encode, and do all the process in the same drive?

EDIT: Disabling both Prefer LSMASHSource over LWLibAAvSource for mp4/mov and Prefer LWLibAVSource over FFMpegSource2 did work but it took longer to start encoding (about 6-7minutes)

Thank you again,

FFMS2Source will first create an index of the whole file, which can take a bit, but happy that solved the problem.
