[HELP] Help with the FPS/interlacing of this PAL file? Also issue with encode speed.
#1
It's a rather big file, so bear with me.

Download link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/12l8soeA...sp=sharing

The stream frame rate, reported by Hybrid, is 25 FPS.
Container/output frame rate is 47.952 FPS.

This is a straight remux (no encode, or anything) of a PAL DVD. The FPS immediately caught my attention as that's obviously not right.
It is also clearly interlaced, with lots of interlace artifacts throughout.

Any time I have tried to encode it, with a deinterlacer (such as QTGMC), it comes out with juttery frames.

Additionally, it seems there is some issue with encoding this file, as no matter what settings I use, it goes at a very slow FPS, far slower than any other file with the same settings.

=> Tell Hybrid to use the frame rate from the stream. Smile
(Enable: "Config->Internals->Prefer Original->Frame rate" before loading the source.)

That sounds like the frame order isn't detected properly, try whether overwriting the frame rate to 'top field first' or 'bottom field first' fixes the problem.
You might also use the Vapoursynth/Avisynth Preview to check deinterlacing before encoding. Smile

Might be due to the deinterlacing, no clue without further details. Wink

Looked at the source.
The source is progressive. (When overwriting scan type to 'progressive' no combing artifacts are visible.)
=>
1. enable "Config->Internals->Prefer Original->Frame rate"
2. enable "Filtering->(De-)Interlace/Telecine->Overwrite input scan type to' and set it to 'progressive'.

Thanks. It now encoded at a proper speed for my settings, 50+ FPS, instead of an abnormally low value.

The output now seems to be very slow? It only seems to look normal when remuxed to the originally listed 47.952 FPS with MKVToolNix, which is odd. I fear may introduce interlacing artifacts on playback, but do not have proof. Do you know if this is harmful to do, or if there's a way to avoid needing to do this?

How could you add interlacing artifacts without interlacing?
I agree that something is wrong with the audio too.
Just remuxing the input while ignoring the time stamps returns an async output.
Extracting both the audio and the video, the audio stream is shorter.
Seems like the audio was stretched,...
Seems someone took the video which was encoded at 25fps and audio that was synched against a 23.976 fps stream.
I did a small test where I enabled "Audio->Base->Audio Encoding Options->Filtering->Speed Change->decimals from 23.976 to 25" output seems synch now.
