Full Version: m2ts file - with baked in interlacing

The Blu-ray file shows as "progressive" when imported.

I have tried overwriting to numerous interlaced/mixed options with various de-interlacing settings but none seem to be able to remove the interlacing, which usually appears on scenes with faster motion.  Any suggestions?
File is detected as progressive since MediaInfo reports:

and that's correct. That file is progressive.

The lines you see are there because someone messed up when converting an interlaced source to progressive.
So my guess atm. is that someone hat a low res version like 640x360 interlaced source and then resized the video to 1920x1080 without taking into account that the source is interlaced. The only way to get something somehow usable from this is to undo part of the resizing.

Try the following to get some somewhat HD resolution content:
  • load source
  • enabled "Crop/Resize->Base->Picture Crop"
  • set "Crop/Resize->Base->Picture Crop" left: 226, right: 230.
  • enabled "Crop/Resize->Base->Resize"
  • enable "Filtering->Vapoursynth->Misc->Script->Lower res. before resize"
  • enable "Filtering->Vapoursynth->Misc->Script->Lower res. before resize->height"
  • set "Filtering->Vapoursynth->Misc->Script->Factor" to 3 or 4.
check the Vapoursynth Preview to see what that did.
Personally I would also enable 'Filtering->Vapoursynth->DeNoise->KillerSpots'.
Setting NNEDI3 or a similar super resolution resizer under "Filtering->Vapoursynth->Frame->Resize->Resizer" might help a bit, but the fact is whoever did the conversion from low resolution interlaced to full hd should not have got paid for the job.

Many thanks, that works very well. What part of it removed the interlace jaggies?
The downscaling the source by a factor of 3 or 4 and upscaling it back, so basically throwing away most of the horizontal information. (but looking at the source the isn't much detail te begin with, so not much loss)
Thanks, that's much appreciated. Smile
