Hello Selur,

The NVEnc encorder has a fast Debanding filter. Since a little banding could happen quite frequently I'd like to have an opinion if it is safe to enable the Debanding option in NVEnc always, just in case some banding is present in the source movie.

Thanks,
Dan
What a debanding filters normally do is:
a. smooth areas where it detects color changes (according to some threshold) to get rid of banding
b. add noise to those areas (dither) to avoid the appearance of the banding when using 8bit compression (some deband-filters might skip this part, especially if they operate in high bit depth)

So if you apply debanding on a source that does not need it, and depending on the used threshold you can lose details (due to the debanding/smoothing) and require more datarate since new fine details (noise/dithering) were added.
