I am using a fairly old version of Hybrid but it does everything I want, so I stopped upgrading some years ago.. Its flawless and never fails and nothing has changed on my PC, atleast not in the time since I have run Hybrid last.

But today, when I try to launch it, when it gets to "Initializing Preview", it crashes with "Hybrid Encoder Gui has stopped working".. Details show:

Any thoughts/ideas?

Jon
Sorry, no real clue.
Wild guess:
Either something in the default settings or a job queue causes Hybrid to crash like that or there are missing some dlls.

My best advice would be:
Check under 'C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\hybrid', if there's a 'autosavedJobs.xml' (<- this contains the jobs) delete it and try whether it helps.
In case it didn't help move all '*ModelDefaults.xml' (<- these are Hybrids last saved defaults) files to another folder and see if that helps.
Neither deleting the jobs nor the defaults helps my guess is something changed on your system which causes Hybrid to crash.

Cheers.. After posting, I started poking around and found the "roaming" directory, where temporarily moved each file that had been "touched" in the last few days..

But it didn't change anything.. All of the remaining fails are dated months or even years ago.

I think I may have ot bit the bullet and remove the version I have and install the latest.

Jon

I didn't expect that...... I have now installed the latest version, and also rebooted the PC just to be sure.. And I STILL get the same crash...

Although now "Initiallizating Preview" flashes by and it crashes at "Initializing tabs" (details below)

The only thing I have done in the last few days is install some fonts..

I am at a loss now...

I have now ripped out every trace of Hybrid.. Removed all the directories from "program files" and "users" and insatlled the latest version

Under roaming "fontconfig" and "fonts" folders get created.. But as soon as it gets to "initializing tabs" I get the crash.

I am absolutely gutted.. I use Hybrid almost daily and have with zero problems for years.
Make sure you delete all the settings on deinstallation.
The configuration files or your old version are not compatible to the latest.

Also try disabling your virus scanner, firewall, may be that is what is causing the problem.

Cu Selur

Ps.: What OS are you on?

I deleted all of the files under ".../roaming/hybrid" as well as all of the files under "...program files/hybrid"

Are there any more "configs" which can be removed?

Turned Windows Firewall off, same crash.

I am on Win7.

What is odd is that I don't use the PC for anything really.. Nothing changes.. I haven't install any new software, hardware or drivers in months...

The only thing I have been doing is installing some Fonts over the past few days.. I guess my next option is a system restore, just to take me back a few days/weeks just to see if that helps

Jon

Edit: When I go into system restore and look at my oldest restore point.. The ONLY things that have changed are:

- Hybrid
- Firefox update from 58.0.2 to 59.0.2
- Mozilla Service Pack
- Microsoft office update.
You are on a 64bit OS right? (32bit support was dropped a while ago)

Sadly I have no clue what's causing the crash. Sad

Yep.. 64bit.. Are there no logs that are created at start up? Or any way to force Hybrid into dropping some logs?
Assuming the default files have been created one could enable the debug output and set an output folder by modifying the GlobalDataModelDefaults.xml and change:
  • debugLevel to 9
  • defaultOutputPath to an existing path where the debug output would be created
  • createDebug to true
that would create a debug output which might contain something, other that that only special modified build output more data.

It doesn't even get as far as creating any default files.. In roaming, all I get is FONTS/FONTCONFG folders (which are empty), none of the XML files are created.
I'll create a modified Hybrid build which will open a shell window and display some stuff there, may be that helps.
Also may be fontconfig crashes in some way due to your additional fonts, and causes Hybrid to crash with it,..
