a. the key-frames
b. that there is cut support in Hybrid for single cuts

Hi,

ok, I understand the "a." : we have to add chapters during encoding (like step 1 in the method you gave) - sorry i didn't understand that at first (englsih is not my native language & smtimes I misunderstand what I read...)

But I don't understand the "b." : we can only put 2 chapters (1 at 00:00, then an other 1 farther in the video), so there is only 1 cut ?
I'm sure it's not that, but I don't get it...

Like I said, I need sometimes to cut a file & not encode it - when it's already encoded, but I have 2 issues...

what I did :
1.
- loaded a H265 encoded file containing 3 cartoons
- added 3 chapters with the names of the cartoons
- set audio/video to passthrough
- created & started a job --> result ok with 3 chapters
2.
- I put the result in Hybrid
- let audio/video to passthrough
- enabled Config->Output->Filename Generation->Output Filename Generation->Use chapter names (--> it's always checked)
- enabled Base->Generate (it's always cheked)
- hit 'Queue Chapters' & started the queue

All seems ok, I have 3 little video files, but :
- the chapter names are not in the video filenames (fe. I have "720x480_ld5-8.PAR corrigé.h265_Hybrid_crf23.insertChapt_Chapter 3.insertChapt") --> what wrong did I do ? I re-checked to see if I forgot smthg, but no... --> do I have to "save" them in clicking on smthg ? I clicked on the big "+" to add them in the main window, is it ok or is there smthg else to do ?
- I can watch only the 1st video file, the 2 others make VLC crash
Sad

It's not the 1st time that VLC crashes reading a part (but not the 1st one) of a long H265 video file that I have cut with a tool (like I just did tonight with Hybrid), so I wonder if a H265 video file can be cut in parts...

hi,

now that I have the "adding chapters & encoding" step in mind, I'll try again tonight...
...assuming i won't have the same looping problem as this morning.

Hi,

in your method, step 2, you wrote :
II. Split the file and name the output files after the chapters.

  1. load output of previous file as source
  2. set audio&video processing to passthrough
  3. enable Config->Output->Filename Generation->Output Filename Generation->Use chapter names
  4. enable Base->Generate
  5. hit 'Queue Chapters' to let Hybrid create the jobs to split the source into the chapters and name the output files according to the chapter names
--> we don't have to delete the chapters which are still in the "Chapter" tab ?
I presume 'Yes' so I did it.
I'll tell you the result

regards

EDIT :
- the 2018.09.16.1 version seems to accept to put keyframes for the chapters - with NVEnc codec, & the video parts seem to be ok Smile
- but the "chapter naming" is not ok, I still have "Looney...._Encode_Chapter 1.mkv" when the source is "Looney...._Encode.mkv" Sad
EDIT2 :
- the "chapter naming" is ok, IF I don't delete the chapters in the "Chapter" tab !!!
is it normal ? I ask that because in this step 2 of yout method, we can assume that I do it not the same day as the step 1, & so the next day, there won't be nothing in this tab, no ?
The chapters should be deleted on loading the new source and be replaced with the once from the source.
-> Write exactly what you do, so I can reproduce what you do here.
Tested it yesterday and it worked fine here.

hi,

what I do :
1.
- load a H264 file containing X cartoons
- add X chapters with the names of the cartoons, beginning at 00:00 (each chapter is put at the beginning of the cartoon, not the end)
- set audio to passthrough & video to 'NVEnc / h265 / variable bitrate (HQ)'
- enable Base->Generate
- crop if needed
- PAR 1x1
- enable Config->Output->Filename Generation->Output Filename Generation->Use chapter names - set a suffix to the file name

- create & start the job --> result ok with x chapters
2.
- put the encoded file in Hybrid
- set audio/video to passthrough
- enable Config->Output->Filename Generation->Output Filename Generation->Use chapter names (--> it's always checked)
- delete the suffix
- delete the chapter names, because I think that there are not deleted automatically when loading the new file

- enable Base->Generate (it's always checked)
- hit 'Queue Chapters' & start the job queue

--> In that case, I don't have the chapter names Sad

If i keep them, I have them as suffix at the end of the filename.

Other parameters checked (by default) :
- chapter -> import chapters on input change
- chapter -> auto adjust chapter names
(all others are the ones set by default)

Hint : maybe I should delete the chapters BEFORE loading the encoded file & see if it works ?

Enabling 'Use chapter names' and then delete the chapter names doesn't make any sense.
If you don't think the chapter names are taken from the new file, clear the chapter queue before loading the new file not after,...

Cu Selur
as the names are the same, and as I do the 2 steps one after the other, I didn't imagine that the chapters could come from the source file, i thought they came from the previous step !
it's when I answered to you today that I thought about that possibility...

i'll test this evening !

hi

it works !
I just loaded a video "chapterized" yesterday, and the chapters appeared in the "chapter" tab !!!

GREAT !!!

Hello,

Thanx for the new version ! I'll try asap...
just a question : i still have to encode to "chapterize" (= add chapters to) a video ?

regards
You never needed that If your chapters start at key-frames, in case they don't output, might be synch or not get cut where you intended.

Reencoding is to make sure chapters start on key-frames.

Cu Selur
hello

don't have time to test it for now, will try tonight...
