Advice on settings for cleaning up highly compressed video - Perseverant - 20.01.2025 I have some DVDs where they crammed a LOT of episodes on each disk resulting in some serious issues related to video compression. I usually just leave video as-is, but this is bad enough that I'd like to experiment with some filtering. Based this image (see the dog's face), would you be so kind as to recommend which filter(s) would give the best chance of improvement? Is this a problem that requires deblocking? ...or something else? RE: Advice on settings for cleaning up highly compressed video - Selur - 20.01.2025 Depending on your hardware, you could throw BasicVSR++ at it (requires torch add-on which requires an NVIDIA card). There might also be some .onnx (vs-mlrt) or .pth (vsgan) models that could clean it up. Some heavy denoising might also do a fine job, would need a sample of the unprocessed source and some info about your hardware and what os you are using for proper suggestions. I'm running Windows 10 and have an nVidia RTX 3060 Ti video card. Video sample is attached. I've used various AI models to process video using chaiNNer, but I've never run into a denoising model (other than dotzilla, which is great for cleanup of dot crawl and rainbowing). Thanks! RE: Advice on settings for cleaning up highly compressed video - Selur - 20.01.2025 Okay, source seems to be bff and originals 12000/1001 fps. Whether you want to lower the frame rate to the original is up to you, but from the looks of it its a fixed pattern, so Frame->Reduction->SelectEvery could be used, on the sample I used Cycle '5' and Offset '0 2'. Which will produce this code: # Deinterlacing using QTGMC Not really sure how 'clean' you want it, I for an extreme using Despot MCTemporalDenoise + BasicVSR++: For demonstration, I also uploaded a few other examples to https://www.mediafire.com/folder/co6mscdyxb0k1/Examples. Cu Selur RE: Advice on settings for cleaning up highly compressed video - Perseverant - 20.01.2025 Impressive improvement. I'll probably just stick with NTSC framerate. Did you do any custom settings to get that result or just check the box next to "MC Temporal Denoise"? If custom, can you show a screenshot so I can mirror it? I clicked through the denoise tabs and am not seeing one for BasicVSR. Can you direct me to where that one is located in the UI? Thanks for the help. My wife will be excited. She loved this show as a kid and wants our kids to enjoy it, but wasn't thrilled with the video quality RE: Advice on settings for cleaning up highly compressed video - Selur - 20.01.2025 BasicVSR++ is under Vapoursynth->Others, since it's more for restoration than denoising. I used DeSpot with the default values and MCTemporalDegrain with 'veryhigh'. Also, note that I adjusted the filter order (Vapoursynth->Misc->Filter Order/Queue) and moved BasicVSR++ after MCTemporalDenoise. I'm feelin' dumb. There's probably some basic UI feature I'm missing, or I might be looking in the totally wrong places, but I'm hitting dead-ends, probably because of things implied that I don't know. I'm on the latest release. I'm sorry. Can you provide a little more guidance? This is the best I could do: MCTemporalDenoise in Vapoursynth>DeNoise tab (I did not see a "MCTemporalDegrain" option in any of the tabs, or a "very high" selection): BasicVSR++ in Vapoursynth>Other>Filter drop-down is throwing an error: EDIT: I found Despot in Vapoursynth>Artifacts as well, so I think I'm good on that one... RE: Advice on settings for cleaning up highly compressed video - Selur - 21.01.2025 Sorry, it's MCTemporalDenoise. For BasicVSR++ the torch addon needs to be installed. Link to the addon is in the download Page. |
