Esxi running macos For selur
#1
I am terrible at walkthroughs but great at solving problems.

This may not be the easiest way to do it, but it is the way i followed.

First you need a Free computer and 2 usb drives. we need to Create a Bootable usb installer And the second usb will be the esxi host os.

These instructions need to be followed to get esxi host running on the computer.

Once that is done, getting mac installed is the next step.
Now you can install all the way up to Catalina, but high sierra or mojave may be better.

Anyway.
There is one thing preventing macos from being installed on esxi running on non-mac hardware. Someine created a linux driver which unlocks esxi for mac install. All the info is listed on this website.

It seems more complicated than it really is. But anyone who can program, probably understands this a hell of a lot better than I do.

I tried to register there and download the free trial.
Everything seems to work up to the moment when I want to download something, then I land on "Activate Your My VMware Account" https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/inactiveaccount, there I fill out the CAPTCHA, get another Email, press the 'Activate now' link, that leads me to the Acount activated site (https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/activation) and then to https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/home, when I then press the 'Download Free Trial' link for VMware vSphere I am back at the 'Activate Your My VMware Account' page.
-> After trying it four times I give up.

Dev versions are in the 'experimental'-folder of my GoogleDrive, which is linked on the download page.

If you can share a link where I can download the file I can try it.

This file contains an ISO image used to create a CDROM. Download the file to a folder on your hard drive, then create a CD using your preferred CD burning software.

Okay, what I did so far:
Create a bootable usb stick from the iso, plugged the usb stick into an older system (System: 2xXeon E5640@2.67, 63.GB RAM, 256GB SSD) of mine, started the installation and I got a warning about that in future versions of exsi my CPU may not be supported.
Since it didn't say that the cpu(s) weren't supported I continued.
Installation worked fine, and I got a local IP through which I could access the installed system.
There are a few warnings:
Quote:Dieser Host ist potenziell anfällig für in CVE-2018-3646 beschriebene Probleme; Details und VMware-Empfehlungen finden Sie in https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/55636.
You are running a DellEMC Customized version of VMware ESXi Image. Note that this is a static file and doesn’t get updated upon updates
- first is about the "speculative-Execution vulnerabilities in Intel processors" -> don't really care for this system
- second is no problem either
- third is about that it's a trial series, which probably isn't an issue either if it works and we can figure out which license I need to buy.

-> So now I got a running vmware esxi server. What now? Smile
