What is the correct order of steps

Hi – please advise.
(if I put the question in the wrong thread – I apologize)

I have source films on Hi8 and I download them to my PC with the WinDV program.
Parameters: Format AVI, 25FPS, Interlaced- Bottom Field First, 720x576, 4:3.
I need to do editing (softw KdenLive) and also remove interlacing in the Hybrid program.
The question is - What is the correct order of steps: 1. Deinterlaced ( by Hybrid), 2.- editing by KdenLive. 3- export to MP4 ???

Yes, first deinterlacing, then editing with an NLE, then exporting to whatever format and container you need, while using a lossless format as intermediate, seems the right order.

(I've only recently started learning about this issue)

NLE = non linear editing, like KDENLive&co.

HI, could I ask for some more advice?
I watched the video “Deinterlacing by Zachary Halberd” – it helped me a lot.
But it outputs to MOV (ProRes) and with its settings the resulting video is +46% more space.
I only know the lossless format - AVI, or is there something different in Hybrid?
If I choose AVI, what should I choose in the Processing (codec) folder?

1. avi is a container and does not influence whether the video format is lossless or not (same for mov, mp4, mkv,..)
2. ProRes is a lossy video format. It is/was marketed as 'visually lossless' but it is lossy. Usually it's used if it's the only not 'highly' lossy and fast format that your tool chain supports.
3. the avi container usually also is only used when the tool chain requires it and usually only if your have vfw decoders for the format in your system.

Hybrid does support multiple lossless video formats:
1. FFV1
2. FFvHuff
3. UT Video
4. H.264 lossless
5. AV1 lossless
Hybrid also supports some 'intermediate' formats, which usually used as 'visually lossless' when using high data rates.
1. ProRes
2. DNxHD
3. Cineform HD

So unless your tool chain requires avi as a container or ProRes as a videoformat (and mov as a container), I would use neither of these.

Ps.: Yes, all these formats require way higher bit rates than a lossly alternative. If you come from a highly compressed format like av1, mpeg-4 asp/avc/hevc/.., vc1, mpeg-2,... the differences can be really high.
