Autodetection of Interlaced, field order and Telecine Removed
#1
I just installed the latest version and I find that it no longer autodetects interlacing or telecine in my video, nor auto-selects the filtering appropriately.

Since more the 50% of my work consists in de-interlacing my old videos, I found this feature extremely helpful and almost it always made the correct selection.

I have read online explanations and I can understand some of the reasons it was removed.  However, for me this will cause a lot more work that I formerly was able to do quickly.

Is there any way I can duplicate that detection and filtering choices?  Could you add back in in the future this option?  Help Please, this is the primary reason I use Hybrid tools which I love, and I have donated several times to support your work.

No option regarding interlaced detection was removed.
Hybrid by default uses MediaInfo, FFmpeg,.. to analyse the headers.
That should not have changed.
Hybrid does have an analyse functionality, which I rewrote (but the new version worked as good or even better then the old on all my samples).

This functionality is either triggered by:
a. starting it manually Filtering->(De.)Interlace/Telecine->Analyse
or
b. by telling Hybrid to automatically run it (Config->Automation->Extended Checks)

So my guess is that, either:
a. you before told Hybrid to automatically analyse every source and the option isn't enabled
b. the option is enabled, but does not work (can't reproduce that here)
c. the option is enabled, does work, but for some reason does not properly detect your input files.

If c. is the case, can you share a sample where the older detection worked fine and the new one does not?

With the last version, after I placed a file on the input line, the system analyzed it and told me if it was interlaced or not and also telecine.  The new version does appear to detect the interlaced as before and display that in "Video" window at the top right.

However, Files that previously ran would also select a Filtering setting automatically that no longer happens.  Certain old file from some sources would select one filter preset, and other a different one.  No I see none of that.  Telecine files had an addition change.

I have turned on the  (Config->Automation->Extended Checks) and they do appear to run, but again no filter settings show up.  I used them verify that it was detected correctly and would work as before.

Is there something else I need to reconfigure?

Quote:I have turned on the (Config->Automation->Extended Checks) and they do appear to run, but again no filter settings show up.
I tried to reproduce this by enabling "Config->Automation->Extended Checks->Interlaced check" then opening an interlaced source.
Hybrid properly reported:
checking bff.m2v for interlacing,... running interlaced check,... Starting interlaced analysis through Vapoursynth (5% in parts of 300 frames) of bff.m2v Indexing: bff -> Interlaced analysis finished after 00:00:01.864hrs Reason: interlaced: every field shows a new moment; bobbed bottom field first, motion runs straight (0% turning back), bobbed the other way it turns back and forth (85%) -> interlaced check result: bottom field first adjusting scan order due analysis to: bottom field first
switching to the "Filtering->(De-)Interlace/Telecine"-Tab it properly reported "(bottom field first)" and the Vapoursynth code shows:
# Deinterlacing using QTGMC clip = qtgmc.QTGMC(clip, Preset="Fast", TFF=False, tools={'mv': 'mvutensils', 'expr': 'akarin', 'nnedi3': 'znedi3', 'eedi3': 'vszip', 'dfttest': 'neo_fft', 'nlmeans': 'knlm', 'bm3d': 'bm3d', 'rg': 'zsmooth', 'median': 'zsmooth', 'fft3d': 'neo_fft', 'grain': 'noise'}) # new fps: 59.94
Now feeding it a telecined source, I see:
checking 1×01.mkv for interlacing,... running interlaced check,... Starting interlaced analysis through Vapoursynth (5% in parts of 300 frames) of 1×01.mkv -> Interlaced analysis finished after 00:00:01.703hrs Reason: 40% of the frames repeat a field and field matching leaves 0% combed -> interlaced check result: telecine adjusting scan order due analysis to: telecine Scan order changed from top field first to telecine Scan order changed from telecine to top field first
Looking in the "Filtering->(De-)Interlace/Telecine"-Tab I see (telecine), but the chosen deinterlacer is still "QTGMC (Vapoursynth)", while it should be "TIVTC (Vapoursynth)".

=> seems like there is a bug and Hybrid doesn't properly switch for detected telecine content ("Overwriting input scan type to" properly works)

Will look at it tomorrow. Need some sleep now. Smile
