Aside from that your source probably does not have tons of flat areas and sharp edges, that does not say much.

True, ESRgan depending on wich settings, can look like thin foil !!  But my output results don't look near as bad as in that example from that link you've posted fortunately!! 
That plastic look is particular noticeable in wide viewed / zoomed out scenes with too strong settings ..  

But with the right settings, you have to look and search very carefull to spot it ..
