Cannot Extract Subtitles from .VOB files
#1
Hello,

I am wondering if anyone else has run into issues with trying to extract subtitles from .vob files ripped via DVD Decrypter? I am trying to encode to mkv, and I have Hybrid set up to automatically pass-through subtitles, but nothing happens. So, I go to the subtitle tab and to manually extract and it gives a popup stating "Found no subtitles to extract". However, if I open the vob file in VLC, I can select a subtitle track. I should note that I haven't had this issue trying to extract from mkv files ripped via MakeMKV. But MakeMKV creates sync issues if I try to deinterlace anything, so I'm using DVD Decrypter with some discs now. Please, read the 'Infos needed to fix&reproduce bugs,..'-sticky before you post about a problem.

Don't look further..
Only 1 tool you will EVER need for  *.ifo / *.vob extraction → PGcDemux  Shy

Also, select the right *.ifo file and title for the set of *.vobs = usually the movie / episodes

a. the subtitles are not typical image based vobsub subtitles but text based EIA-608 subtitles.
b. Hybrid does not support extracting subtiles from single vob files.
c. according to the info, this is a vob which contains a DVD Menu,...

=> It's correct that Hybrid will not extract these subtitles, but this something I do not plan to change.
CCEExtractor might be able to extract such subtitles.

Alright. I will give that a shot. Thanks, Selur! Merry Christmas!

So, I tried CCExtractor, but it doesn't get past the first few seconds where it reads "[screams]" at the beginning of the video. So, I tried Duck's PgcDemux suggestion. It extracts the subtitles as .sup files. Which I can load into Hybrid, but it crashes at the MKV merge muxing step. Problem is that it says the .sup file is a non-supported file type when trying to mux it. I even tried the convert to .idx/.sub checkbox but it crashed at that step right away too. I will attach the log. That subtitle conversion part will be at the bottom of the log. As it was the most recent job I tried.

Looking at the debug output:
"C:\Program Files\Hybrid\64bit\bdsup2sub++.exe" --resolution ntsc --output "D:\Library\Videos\Movies\Rips\Tertiary Rips\Subpictures_20.sub" "D:\Library\Videos\Movies\Rips\Tertiary Rips\Subpictures_20.sup"
simply crashes.
Can you share the subtile file with me?

Got a vob with cc subtiltes here, and I could easily extract the subtitles as .srt with CCExtractor.
What I did:
  • Started CCExtractor
  • pressed 'Add more files' and selected the vob file
  • switchted to 'Basic Settings' and changed 'Output file format' to .srt
  • switchted to 'Dashboard' and pressed 'Start all'

Sorry for the late reply. I didn't see/get an email push notification. Here is the .sup file from PCGdemux.

Alright. So, I followed your directions step by step and still only got this far with the subtitles (see attached). I also know that I previously received an error at the end of my log where it would say "eng.traineddata not found! No Switching Possible". I eventually solved this (I think) with downloading the tessdata files into a folder named "tessdata" within the CCExtractor folder. I still can't get past the same spot, but I don't receive the error message at the end of the log.
